The Door

She stood there staring at the door, listening in anticipation. She was on time, she knocked, and no one answered. She listened more intently trying to hear any sign of life on the other side. No one came. No one said a word, or walked around. She was positive she was at the right address.


She stepped back and peered down the hall to see if someone that could possibly help her was coming. Again, there was no one. The building was perfectly still with no signs of life. Odd. This was such a busy side of town, where were the people? She checked her watch, 8:30 a.m. She arrived a few minutes early, but now it was the requested time for her meeting.


As she stood there looking at the door again, she noticed some strange marks. These were not the typical worn out, knocked on wood marks. These marks looked more deliberate. She leaned closer to the door to get a better look; they were scratch marks with deep grooves. Why would there be scratch marks on the door? She looked at her watch again, 8:37. Had she really just spent seven minutes looking at scratches on a door?


She decided it was time to go, clearly no one was coming. Just as she turned around, she heard the bing of the elevator and saw someone approaching. Finally. She was becoming impatient and creeped out standing there waiting. As the person approached, she smiled and said "good morning". The person said nothing, but walked towards her with an unnaturally quick pace. Their movements were both unnerving and mesmerizing. She tried to move her feet, but couldn't. She felt panic begin to wash over her, and she wanted to scream though she didn't know why.


She opened her mouth to scream, and not a single sound came out. It was apparent this was not a regular person as they extended their arms towards her as they got closer. She turned to run, but there was absolutely no where to go. This office was at the end of the hallway, and there was no escape. She finally understood the scratches on the door, someone tried getting inside and away from this being. Before she could attempt to get inside the door herself, the being grabbed her and carried her off to the elevator.


It was pitch black in the elevator, except for the lights indicating which floor they were on. They were going down, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, G, B, and descended past the garage and the basement. How was this possible? The elevator finally stopped and the doors opened. Darkness, cold and damp. The being carried her off the elevator and to their place of solitude, then sat her down gently. It looked at her intensely without saying a word. She was afraid, but opened her mouth to speak anyway, "what do you want from me?" Calmly it said, "life", and it proceeded to drain the life force from her and took on her appearance. When the being was done, it left her lifeless body on the cold damp floor, then left the building wearing everything that made her HER.
