She was different. She has always been different, and she has always been aware of it. She didn’t mind being different, she saw it as a gift. She was unique, that’s what her mom always told her.
The only downside to her uniqueness was her lack of friends. Other people didn’t understand her and as a result, she didn’t have anyone to talk to. That was until she adopted a cat as a companion. Her cat became her best friend and closest confidant. Soft, sleek, and all black with eyes like emeralds, the girl named her new friend Bastet after the Egyptian goddess. She spent hours talking to her cat and finding comfort in the cat’s silent company.
One evening, the girl had a male visitor. The cat was surprised since the girl never had visitors of any kind. Though the girl was pretty, smart, and funny by the cat’s standard, Bastet knew the girl didn’t have human friends. Curious by the visitor, Bastet perched herself on the highest cat perch that was built on the wall for her so she can get a better view of this new person.
He was cute, a little taller than the girl, and he seemed nice. Bastet was intrigued by him. She observed how excited the girl was about having this visitor but noticed that something was off.
Since the cat wasn’t accustomed to the girl having other people over, she didn’t have anything to compare the girl’s behavior to. She just instinctively knew something was not right.
As Bastet watched the girl interacting with the male visitor from high above them, it appeared that the girl was happy. The girl was smiling, laughing, and she even kissed the visitor before getting up to refill his drink. Then something strange happened. As the girl made her way back to the couch and handed the visitor his drink from behind him, the girl leaned over him and gently kissed him again. Then very unexpectedly, the girl began strangling him with a wire until he stopped moving.
When the girl was done, she looked up at her cat and placed her index finger in front of her lips as if to say, “shhh” and grinned.
